Airbnb Deploys AI-Powered Anti-Party Technology

With summer approaching, Airbnb is doubling down on its use of its own “anti-party technology” to help reduce unauthorized parties at its rental properties. The new technology will be used in the United States and Puerto Rico to target higher-risk bookings over peak holiday weekends, including Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.
Airbnb’s anti-party technology uses machine learning and evaluates numerous factors including: the type of listing; how long the guest plans to stay; how far the guest lives from the rental property; and how far in advance the guest made the booking.
Airbnb will block certain bookings it deems to be high-risk (because of, among other things, a last minute booking for an entire home, local residency of the guests), or can redirect guests to find alternative accommodations at other listings.
In 2024, this technology helped prevent roughly 51,000 people in the U.S. from making relatively disruptive bookings during the summer holidays. The highest report of blocked attempts was in the states of Texas, Florida, and California.
The Airbnb’s global party ban began in 2020, has also aided in a considerable decline in party related issues and complaints, with reports decreasing over 50% in the U.S. By 2024 with the above technology, only less than 0.06% of stays resulted in complaints of parties.
In an effort to further assist hosts and communities, Airbnb are rolling out things like noise sensors, a 24-hour safety line, a Neighborhood Support Line (to report urgent community issues) in addition to preventing parties. By promoting responsible travel we aim to provide a positive experience for everyone, hosts and guests alike.
