Apple May Raise Prices for Upcoming iPhones

According to reports Apple is considering price increases for the next lineup of the iPhone, which is set to be released this fall. Apple has not tied the increase in price to the ongoing trade issues between China and the United States, rather it may use the new features and design changes as justification for the higher prices respectively.

According to experts, Apple would like to give the appearance that this is not a result of higher import taxes from China. Apple’s tariffs could cost the company approximately $900 million in the third quarter of the year, however, a spokeswoman said that it has not been confirmed whether tariffs will affect iPhone prices or not.

Apple has already taken strides to avoid increased import costs by moving production of iPhones to India so that the company does not solely rely on China for production.

On Saturday, the U.S. and China put a 90 day moratorium on new tariffs in order to allow for more trade negotiations. The U.S. government announced they would also not be imposing the tariffs on many other tech items such as smartphones, laptops, and other electronics components. However, the 20% tariffs on the many other Chinese goods is still in place.

Aside from possible price increases, Apple is slated to release a new ultra-thin iPhone later this year. This model may contain some updated features and a new design to help justify the increased pricing.

Looking forward, however, Apple is reportedly planning larger ideas for 2027 – the 20th year anniversary of the iPhone. Reports indicate that Apple is working on a new iPhone design with a mostly glass and curved body with no more screen cutouts. This would mark a sea change for iPhones since it would be the first major redesign since the iPhone X in 2017.
