Google I/O 2025: Big AI Push with Gemini, Stitch & XR

Google I/O 2025 began with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence, establishing AI as the core focus for Google’s future. After both announced upcoming Android updates at a different show a week earlier, today the Keynote focused on the company’s growing AI ecosystem with Project Astra alongside Gemini.

Google I/O 2025: Everything You Should Know

The biggest news was Stitch, a new generative AI tool to help developers quickly build app-ready UI designs. Using Gemini 2.5 Pro, Stitch can generate functional frontend code within minutes. The tool is now available as an experimental feature on Google Labs.

With Stitch, developers can communicate their design intentions in a simple English narrative, whether that be UI themes, layout components, or user experiences. Additionally, developers can add visual references such as wireframes or sketches. Stitch takes all of this into consideration and provides suitable UI components and code, which can save developers hours of manual effort.

In addition to Stitch, Google offered additional insights related to Project Astra “its real-time AI assistant project” and discussions around the use cases and functionality of Gemini on multiple devices. The company is committed to making AI tools as usable and developer-friendly as possible.

There were reminders around Android XR, including opportunities to see more demos and more details to come. Google also teased its prototype smart glasses, and its project with Samsung continuing to develop Project Moohan. More announcements on new hardware will be available later this year.

With these announcements, Google aims to lead the AI race by combining advanced tools, smart devices, and deep integration across its platforms. The I/O 2025 event clearly positions Google as a key player in shaping the future of AI-powered experiences.
