Gordon Ramsay has revealed he recently underwent surgery to remove a form of skin cancer, turning the personal news into a public health reminder.
The 58-year-old chef revealed he was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer, via an Instagram post that included photos of the facial scar and stitches on his face.
Ramsay thanked his doctors at The Skin Cancer Clinic in London for quick attention and treatment. He utilized his normal humor to let fans know:
“I promise you it’s not a facelift—I would want a refund.”
In all seriousness, he added a very important line: “Don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend.” Ramsay really made sure to show how crucial regular sunscreen and skin checks are, especially for people like him who spend a lot of time outside.
Support came pouring in, from fans as well as family. His daughter Holly commented: “Love you dad,” Cancer Research UK reposted his statement encouraging people to protect their skin from the sun.
This is Ramsay’s first public revelation about a cancer diagnosis. It comes just over a year after he was in a serious cycling accident in Connecticut, where he also highlighted the importance of safety.
As usual, Ramsay keeps it honest—mixing blunt, honesty, humor, and a genuine message that resonates well beyond the kitchen.
Take Gordon’s advice, wear sunscreen, check your skin regularly, and share this story to spread awareness.
