Lionel Messi and Suárez Start New Soccer Club in Uruguay

Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez have just announced the new football club Deportivo LSM in Ciudad de la Costa, Uruguay. The club is rebranded from Suárez’s original Deportivo LS, formed in 2018, to now include Messi’s initials as part of their new partnership.

The idea behind the club is to play in the Divisional D, the fourth-tier of football in Uruguay, and work their way up to the higher divisions. Currently, Deportivo LSM has over 3000 members and about 80 staff members.

It uses the LS Complex, which has five-a-side pitches, changing rooms and meeting rooms, and will soon boast the Ciudad Deportiva LS (opening in 2025) as the future site of a full-sized football stadium, a seven-a-side pitch, a hockey pitch and several grass and synthetic pitches.

Suárez emphasized the club’s commitment to developing local talent and contributing to the community, while Messi expressed his enthusiasm for joining the project and sharing his experience. Together, they aim to create a football institution that not only competes at the highest levels but also has a positive social impact.

This collaboration marks a significant step in both players’ post-Barcelona careers, showcasing their dedication to nurturing football in their home country and beyond.
