Meta Takes Legal Action Against AI Nudify Apps Advertisers

Meta is suing a Hong Kong-based company called Joy Timeline. The company advertised AI apps that remove clothing from images without consent. These are known as AI nudify apps.

Meta Files AI Nudify App Lawsuit 2025

The lawsuit “AI Nudify Apps” came to the forefront in the context of an investigation that was carried out by CBS News. It has identified hundreds of these types of app ads on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads.

Meta claims that Joy Timeline was attempting to circumvent its ad review process, as an effort to block Joy Timeline from soliciting the use of such tools in the future.

Meta removed a great deal of the ads and suspended a number of related accounts. In addition, they also blocked the links to these apps. However Meta indicated that blocking these types of ads is becoming more difficult.

CrushAI ran over 8,000 ads for its “AI undresser” tool on Meta platforms in early 2025, creating fake explicit images without consent, according to Alexios Mantzarlis of the Faked Up newsletter.

The apps and ads appear to target men aged 18-65 in the U.S., U.K., and EU. According to experts, the apps are being used in connection with blackmail and the illicit sharing of images. Most of the victims are women and public figures.

The AI nudify app lawsuit 2025 shows how difficult it is to stop harmful AI tools. Reports of similar applications led Apple and Google to remove some of these applications from their online stores.

Meta said it will continue to take legal action to protect users, to curb continued misuse of AI, and to help ensure its platforms remain safe.
