Netflix Home Screen: Unveils a Redesign in 12 Years

Netflix is preparing to launch its most significant overhaul of its home screen in more than a decade, saying it wants to improve the customer experience with a more elegant design and smarter content discovery capabilities. The new interface, called “Eclipse,” will begin a global rollout on May 19, 2025, for most televisions and streaming devices.

Key changes include a refocusing of the navigation bar to the top of the Netflix home screen, so as to provide for easier access to Search, Shows, Movies, Games, and My Netflix. This simplifies the previous sidebar menu method of navigation.

The new homepage also features dynamic content tiles that expand on hover to include synopses, run time, awards, cast details, etc. Tags like “Emmy Award Winner” and “#1 in TV Shows” will be made prominent to help assist users in making informed choices when viewing contents and so they can tell the worst clutter.

Mobile users can expect a new vertical video feed, allowing them to swipe through video clips of shows and movies. Also, a generative AI-powered search is being tested on iOS devices so mobile users can find content using natural language prompts like “I want something funny and upbeat.”
The “My Netflix” hub, which had been exclusive to mobile, is now incorporated into the TV interface. This hub brings together users’ Continue Watching list, their saved titles and their reminders in a single, easy-to-manage personalized section of the site.
Eunice Kim, Netflix’s Chief Product Officer, articulated that the redesign aims “to create an experience that is more flexible for our broad entertainment offerings, and more intuitive and responsive to our members’ needs.

The rollout of these updates will occur in phases over the coming weeks and months, with users receiving a welcome message upon activation of the new interface. Netflix plans to continue refining the experience based on user feedback.
