Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’ Breaks Stranger Things Viewership Record

Netflix has a new global champion. The streaming giant’s latest teen drama Adolescence has officially broken the viewership record set by the blockbuster hit Stranger Things. In just two weeks, the emotionally charged series pulled in over 142 million views, surpassing the former record-holder by a significant margin.
Adolescence Breaking Viewership Numbers
In early May 2025, Adolescence debuted to a worldwide audience, connecting with viewers for its realistic depiction of the struggles of modern teens, including mental health, identity, and friendship.
The ten-episode series created by breakout writer-director Ava Collins tells the story of a group of students as they navigate the challenging period of self-discovery in the age of social media.
As Netflix’s Top 10 Global list shows, this series not only topped the list in English-language markets but found widespread popularity in Latin America, Europe, and Asia—thanks in part to its diverse cast and multilingual release.
Industry experts contend that the reason the show has performed so well is due to both relatability, cinematic-quality production value, and the strong performances by the lead actors, Jaden Morales and Lila Hart.
The social media buzz and fan theories around the show have also kept the interest alive a little longer—with #AdolescenceNetflix trending on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) ever since the show launched.
Netflix has not officially announced a second season, but considering the show’s meteoric rise, renewal seems all but guaranteed.
