PSL Postponed Indefinitely After UAE Hosting Plan Dropped

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been temporally postponed. It is understood this decision came after plans to move the remaining matches to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were abandoned.

On Thursday, the league was suspended due to the deterioration of relations between Pakistan and India due to the two nations accusing the other of carrying out drone and missile attacks on military bases. Pakistan denied the allegations forum India.

Players flew to the UAE on Friday and would have continued the tournament there but have since cancelled the plans.

Several news outlets report that the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) declined to host the PSL as a result of security concerns and to protect relations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). UAE officials told BBC Sport there was no rejection from the ECB.

A senior PSL official said the UAE did not decline to host the games. He also stated the decision was made after a meeting between PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the Prime Minister.

The PCB said the tournament has been postponed to after the advice of the Prime Minister, adding that cricket should respect the pause when things are difficult, but that they also took into consideration the welfare of the players and their families.

The PCB said eight matches remain in this 10th edition of the PSL. They had planned to finish the PSL by 18 May.

The UAE previously hosted PSL matches, including in 2021, and served as a base for Pakistan’s home games for over a decade.
