By Spotify Direct Messages are here. The streaming platform has introduced a new messaging feature that enables users to share songs, podcasts, and audiobooks directly within the Spotify app.
Rolling out this week in select markets, the feature is available to both free and premium users aged 16 and older.
Spotify Direct Messages enable users to share audio with friends they have engaged with through Jams, Blends, or Collaborative Playlists, and of course, any of their other friends in their shared Spotify plan.

To share audio, simply tap on the share icon while listening to any content on the Now Playing screen and then select a friend. Everything you share and your conversation history is saved in a brand-new Messages inbox that you can view by tapping on your profile picture in the top-left corner.
Spotify’s Direct Messages can have 1:1 conversations, emojis, and text replies! Spotify claims that the chats are protected by industry-standard encryption to keep messages private and secure.
You are in control of your inbox. You can choose to accept or deny message requests, block users, or even stop getting messages altogether.
In addition, Spotify built in safety measures to report harmful content or behavior, and Spotify will automatically search for illegal or abusive behavior.
This is a brand new messaging tool to keep users sharing content within Spotify versus being sent to SMS or other third-party apps.
It also allows you to track down what you shared later without scrolling through old texts or DMs in other platforms.
