Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte fans, get ready—fall is arriving early!
Starbucks has confirmed the return of its Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) on August 26, one of its most highly anticipated seasonal releases. While that’s four days later than last year’s announcement, it’s the earliest Starbucks has announced the PSL’s release date.
Return of Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte
This early announcement is not random. According to Starbucks, Google searches for “pumpkin spice” picked up as early as mid-June, almost a full month ahead of the usual mid-July spike.
Continuing to capitalize on the momentum is important, especially considering the declining sales and competition set up by Starbucks in recent years, resulting in significant strategy and brand changes from new CEO Brian Niccol.
The Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte is more than a seasonal favorite. It is a sales juggernaut; seasonal offerings represent around 10% of the Starbucks sales in the US. Last year’s data showed an increase of more than 24% visits to Starbucks the day the PSL was launched, and continued strong foot traffic for the rest of that week.
If you’re too eager to wait, Starbucks has already released PSL inspired creamers and autumn-related products available at grocery stores, not to mention a canned PSL beverage that was available in grocery stores in early August.
Launched in 2003, the PSL has become a cultural icon of the fall; loved by many, even mimicked by many. With the return of the PSL, Starbucks is hoping to ignite sales, and recover the magic.
The Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte is officially back. Mark your calendar and get ready to sip into fall.
