What We Know About the PS6?

The PlayStation 6 (PS6) may be a few years away, but it’s never too early to speculate what the next gaming console will be like. Although Sony just launched the PS5 Pro in 2024, gaming is already looking ahead. Here is everything we know about the PS6 – When is it going to release? How much will it cost? And what will it feature?
When Could the PS6 Launch?
Sony releases its consoles in every several years. Looking in the past, the PS3 launched in 2006, the PS4 in 2013, and the PS5 in 2020. A console is typically developed about five years before its launch. The PS5 development began in 2015, the PS6 will likely share a similar timeline as the previous consoles.
The PS6 will largely likely be released by late 2026, making it possible for a 2027 or even 2028 launch. This date aligns with previous console releases, where Sony tends to launch alongside the holiday shopping season. Furthermore, a 2021 job listing suggested that Sony has began some work on the next console.
How Much Will the PS6 Cost?
The price of gaming consoles has been steadily rising. The PS5 launched at $500, and the PS5 Pro is priced at $700. While it’s hard to predict the exact cost of the PS6, we can expect it to be priced somewhere around $600. With new features and enhanced hardware, Sony might introduce two versions of the PS6 at different price points, similar to the Xbox Series X and Series S.
Possible Features of the PS6
While Sony has yet to announce anything officially, there are a number of possible features that may be included in the PS6, including:
Built-in Wireless Charging: Our understanding is that the PS6 could sport a built-in wireless charging area for your headphones, smartphone and controllers. This would be great for convenience sake to have everything needed to charge in one place.
Better VR Integration: Virtual reality is a more widespread technology than ever before. The PS6 could include the VR headsets and motion controllers to create a VR box with your console, removing other things to buy if you are looking to experience VR gaming.
Backward compatibility: Gamers want piece of mind that their gaming library will last throughout all future generations of consoles. This may be possible with the PS6 being able to process and play games from PS4 and PS5 with an easy migration experience.
Updated UI: Once again, the PlayStation Store and all the other UI elements will have a makeover. Expect to see a more user-friendly experience with more international navigation and potentially better access to things like the built in web browser.
Smaller Size: The PS5 console is big, and a lot of users would want the PS6 console to be smaller and more compact. A smaller console will make it easier for users to accommodate it in their already crowded entertainment setup.
Modular Upgrades: One suggestion we had in our list of “What We Want From PS6” is the theory behind modular upgrades to the console. The idea is that instead of buying a full PS6, gamers would simply replace a dying or limited part, like CPU for example, and gain faster speeds and/or expand storage over time. It seems similar to replacing parts of your PC, and would allow the console to have a much longer lifespan.
Game Series Hubs: Managing a game collection could be easier. Sony could design game series hubs, for example, fans of Legacy of Kain could access or find their entire game series faster and organized by the correct time sequence without looking all over to find it.
Full Digital Console: The rate at which gaming is going to digital downloads and streaming, it would not be too far fetched to suggest that the PS6 may be entirely digital and offer no disk drive. While these might not be good ideas for everyone, it could offer a stream lined option for gamers who are indecisive on content and for all of video gaming’s future.
PS6 Hardware – What to Expect
The PS6 will possibly have upgraded hardware and be able to deliver a better gaming experience. We could see it operating faster than the previous versions and possibly a strong 4K 120 fps and 8K 60 fps option. One source indicated that Sony will likely work again with AMD to help with the main chip of the PS6 console, which could help improve the console a bit.
When it comes to storage space, the PS6 will likely have a large enough hard drive like the 2TB hard drive PS5 Pro. With the growing news of higher quality games and file sizes, gamer will need bigger drives to store more games.
Concept Designs PS6
Many concept designs for the PS6 have been circulating around the web in recent weeks. One concept is the rugged, dark design that is based on many of the Xbox models, and another is a very minimalistic design that has elements from older PlayStation consoles.
Sony can go in a lot of directions in terms of how it designs the PS6 but, to put it simply, the PS6 will likely be smaller and more sleek than the PS5 and could fit in better with the modern entertainment system.
Will the PS6 Be Worth It?
Even though the PS6 is still years away, it’s fairly clear it will be a powerful and feature-full console. Whether you are looking for better performance, VR or just better overall convenient experience whilst gaming on, the PS6 looks like it could be in contention for the must-have consoles in gaming in the future.
For now, we can only guess as to the details until Sony makes an announcement, however, one thing is for sure; whatever they come up with will be another advancement for PlayStation fans everywhere who are getting ready for what innovates in the moving gaming arena.
